Petition to reinstate the Tiruppur Railway Bridge project

The Lok Satta Party, Tamil Nadu has filed a writ petition with the Madras High Court to reinstate the Tiruppur railway over bridge project to its original plan.

Background: The plan to construct a railway over bridge, to decrease the traffic congestion in Kumaran road (an arterial road in Tiruppur), was conceived in 2007. But this plan was changed without any Government order but through mere executive arbitrary action.

These plan changes lacked transparency and accountability and no proper reasons were attributed for these changes. It is also noticeable that these changes have not received any approvals from appropriate authorities.

The plan changes are expensive than the original plan and will increase traffic congestion defeating its intended purpose.

The Lok Satta Party with the information acquired through RTI act along with documents explaining the disadvantages of the illegal plan changes has filed a PIL in the Madras high court requesting to annul the arbitrary execution action of the authorities.

The High Court admitted the petition and has issued a notice to the District collector and Corporation Commissioner to respond back within 2 weeks.
