Government should speed up Auto fare regulation

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday sought one more month from the Supreme Court to implement the revised Auto rickshaw fares in the state. The court has slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the Government for its tardiness. This is not the first time the Government is seeking an extension. The original deadline was in January 2013. This was extended to May and based upon the request from the Government it was extended to July. Now one more extension!
The Lok Satta Party perceives this delay by the Government as an attempt to shun away from its responsibility. The party condemns the sluggish attitude of the Government in this regard. A government should be a role model for its citizens in obeying the lawful order of a court.
The Government should speed up the process, keeping in mind the hardships faced by both Auto drivers and passengers due to this delay.
We would like to remind the efforts taken by Lok Satta Party in working with consumer protection groups and mobilizing people demanding Auto fare regulation.
