Condolence Message – Shri.Gopinath Munde
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014 @ 9:34PM
Loksatta Party expresses its condolences to the family of Shri.Gopinath Munde and his party colleagues. The tragic death of Union Minister Gopinath Munde reminds us of the death of another State Minister from Tamil Nadu Mr.Mariam Pitchai in 2011. Mariam Pitchai died in a car accident when he was traveling to Chennai to take oath as an MLA. It also reminds us of MLA Mr.Muthukumaran, a great visionary CPI leader who died in an accident in 2012.
For long, statistics reveal that India stands number one among all countries in the number of deaths due to accidents. As per the ADSI report, “The incidence of accidental deaths has shown an increasing trend during the period 2003 -2012 with an increase of 51.8% in the year 2012 as compared to 2002”. The number of accident deaths is 394982 in 2012 as per the report. The International Road Federation in 2012 estimated that traffic accidents results in an annual monetary loss of Rs 1 Lakh Crore in India. This is a huge loss for a developing country like India.
Most of the times accidents are not seen as Governance Issues by the Government as well as by the media. This is even after we are loosing more lives in accidents than by Terrorism.
Even the death of a Minister & MLA didn’t make the TN Govt work seriously in this issue. We sincerely hope this is not repeated after this death of Union Minister as well by the Central Govt. It is high time we bring down the number of accidents and we cannot afford to lose any more lives.
