Invitation for Loksatta’s “Let’s Talk Politics” – Education Policy

Saturday, February 20th, 2016 @ 9:18PM

After a long time, Lok Satta is going to host a public programme. The party has been mulling over this for long time too.

Day by day, there has been a steady decline in the number of political debates on various policies. Some have even started questioning the context of policies.

To clear the dust, to bring back the debates to the fore, and at the same time to share the platform with alternative policies and opinions, Lok Satta is going to take the initiative.

Lets begin the discussion with Educational Policy.

Education debate

On one hand we have leftist views, that education shall be the sole responsibility of the government and private parties shall be kept away. They attribute the terrible standards of educational system to private schools.

On the other hand we have Liberalist views who argue, why does any single party has to take the responsibility? What is wrong in any one providing education, if it is of better quality and subsidised? Though the Indian education standard is apalling in the international stage, private schools are the reason that the standard is acceptable at national level.

Both the sides dream for better educational standards in our country, but they have different opinions only on means to achieve. Lok Satta wants to bring these differences to a public paltform, welcoming general public to present their alternate views and philosophies.

Format: In this debate we are going to have two teams, one debating for Liberalist views which supports private bodies providing subsidised education with the other team having Leftist views which opposes privitisation of education. We have chosen 3 personalities for each team. Each person will get 10 minutes to present their views in the first 1 hour. The next 1 hour is for the audience. For the first 30 minutes, attendees will put forth a short gist of their views. For the next 30 minutes, we will have a Q&A session.
In the last 20 minutes, one person from each team will be given 10 minutes each to sum up their views. This will be the fnal round.
